Why tours don’t include fuel surcharges and why pay for it

The fuel surcharge for the tour surprises and even upsets experienced tourists. Surcharge is often a surprise, because the price of holidays in advertising in most cases is voiced without a premium …
Why tours don’t include fuel surcharges and why pay for it
The tourist will know about the increase in the total amount at the last moment. Let’s try to figure out why this is happening and what the tourist should pay for?
How is the fuel surcharge formed
Fuel surcharge – surcharge for airfare, issued by the carrier. The amount of surcharges may depend on several factors, including the jumps in the wholesale prices for kerosene, which refuel the aircraft. Thus, tour operators and airlines shift the possible risks of a change in the cost of the flight to tourists. Such a calculation is due to objective reasons and is not a desire to deceive passengers.
The fact is that agreements on cooperation and the provision of services between the parties in the tourism market are made in advance. The calculation of the main components occurs long before the start of the tour. The tour operator agrees with partners about certain services, as well as the price of them. All rates are fixed. But take into account the final cost of fuel is almost impossible. Airlines can not operate at a loss due to changing external factors, for example, a sharp jump in oil prices. To avoid such situations in the high season, a fuel charge is introduced.
The main factors affecting the price:
the cost of kerosene for aviation in the world market;
airline pricing policy;
the duration of the flight to the regions;
cost of service at the airport;
the time of the flight abroad;
the number of tickets purchased.
In order not to recalculate the price of the ticket and the tour each time, companies introduce a fuel surcharge. Price may depend on the season of travel, early booking, the current situation with fuel. For example, the cost of the collection for tourists who have paid for the tour for several months may be less than for those who bought a “last minute” holiday.
Why tours to Turkey with fuel surcharges
Some tour operators have a fee already included in the cost of the package, some charge it separately on some destinations. In particular, on all flights to Turkey (chartered and regular), which has been the most popular summer holiday destination for millions of tourists for decades, tour operators in the summer season of 2018 charged a fuel surcharge of $ 40 to $ 400. The most expensive fuel surcharge was from Turkish Airlines on regular flights.
On flights to Tunisia, the fuel surcharge was included in the tour price. Why the fee was taken only on flights to Turkey – because the mass direction with huge volumes of passengers. If you do not take it with such volumes, you can be great at a loss.
In fact, the fuel surcharge is paid even in regular air tickets for regular flights. Just when buying such a flight, the fee is already included in the price, and it is automatically taken into account by the units. Even when traveling within Russia, there is a “surcharge” for fuel in the ticket. Buying a ticket in this case, the person does not see a separate collection, since all the basic services and components of the flight are combined in one amount.
For many tour operators, advertising a tour with a price without fuel surcharge is more effective, because tourists often look for the final price options – cheaper, paying attention to great deals. Unfortunately, fuel surcharge is obligatory, therefore it is impossible to refuse it.
